Although the Academy would never give it a nod in a million years, Eurotrip may be the most specific movie to our series. I’ll even admit that it is not even my favorite comedy. However, I can easily say that it is my favorite comedy about a high school graduate going on an overseas trip to adventure Europe with his friends. When Justin and I were brainstorming, this one was my idea, so Justin was like, “Go for it!” I laughed, and after realizing he was serious, I spent all that time until this moment trying with all my might to extract something deep from this movie to compose a post showcasing something relevant about the film other than its setting and theme. My conclusion was that Eurotrip is a simple, shallow comedy filled with the spirit of adventure and awe of Europe’s fine culture… as well as both well timed and easy jokes.
In the movie, the gang of graduates journey across London, Paris, Amsterdam, Bratislava, and Rome, until they reach their destination in Berlin, Germany. If you ignore the plot, the movie is full of European culture, as stereotypical as it may be. And, of course, it’s a bunch of American teenagers living out their fantasies legally younger than they would have otherwise. Except for the marijuana in Amsterdam. That’s just an Amsterdam thing. Here’s a little fun fact for you: The entire movie was shot in Prague, Czech Republic. Everything from the train station to the scene in Vatican City to even the opening scene set in America was shot in a different Prague location.
After all is said and done, you may be wondering how Eurotrip made it in the top three ofour series on thetoptwelve movies to get us psyched for next summer. That’s okay. We all kinda are. But when we take a big ol’ bite out of the list, seeking a taste of something that mirrors a trip across all of Europe taken by members of our generation, the onlybit we can’t spit out is, in fact, Eurotrip. What embodies your dream Eurotrip? A debaucherous hopscotch across the continent, drinking and whooping and hollering along the way? Or a classy, sophisticated trek through a foreign land while admiring every aspect of its art and culture? Or,perhaps a little bit of both? Let us know!
