I recently had Katerina (post below) contact me about writing a post about how wonderful cruises can be.  I thought this was a great idea!  I have been on one cruise out of San Diego with stops in Acapulco, Zihuatanejo, and Manzanilla. Cruises are just amazing ways to travel and see various port cities along the way.

If you get a chance to go on a cruise… take it!  You won’t be sorry.  And even for the European adventurer, there are cruises in the Mediterranean and even up into the Scandinavian countries!

The Magic of Cruising

There’s no doubt about it, there’s something seriously special about a cruise holiday. One of the great things about cruising is the vast array of choice – which extends not just to the range of destinations on offer, but to each individual ship, the dining options, the cabin styles, the onboard entertainment, the facilities… everything.

Let’s say you fancy a Caribbean cruise. And let’s face it, who wouldn’t? Whittling down the general area is one consideration, but that’s just the start. Do you fancy a week-long itinerary or an opulent 28-nighter? Will you stick to the cruise or will you choose to spend a further week or two holidaying on land afterwards? And exactly which Caribbean islands do you want to visit?

Then there’s the ship. When it comes to liners, cruise operators don’t stand still. For instance the popular Thomson Destiny has recently been replaced with a younger, more modern ship – Thomson Majesty – which has taken over the Destiny’s itineraries. On the subject of modernisation, operators like Royal Caribbean International are right at the cutting edge of new ideas, themes and innovations, and it shows in everything they do.

They’ve got world-class entertainment in the form of Broadway style shows and acrobatic performances for the kids (and for open-mouthed adults too), fabulous activities such as wine-tasting sessions and pottery lessons, and sumptuous dining in a huge range of restaurants too numerous to mention. And then there’s the cream of the crop – the onboard facilities – which is what Royal Caribbean have become famous for. Rock-climbing walls, surf simulators, full-sized basketball courts, mini-golf… you name it, they’ve just about got it. How’s that for innovative?

Whatever you fancy on your next cruise holiday – whether it’s a laid-back sojourn on Thomson Spirit, an action-packed experience with Royal Caribbean or perhaps a luxury-laden trip on one of Cunard’s super-liners, the magic of cruising never ends.
