Guest Post – The Best Music Festivals in Switzerland
Today we have another guest post. This one is by Craig and talks about the best musicals festivals that happen each year in the country of Switzerland.
We talked about Switzerland quite some time ago when we looked at the Top Five Places To Go In Switzerland, and so I hope you enjoy this list of festivals!
The Best Music Festivals in Switzerland
For the crème de la crème of Europe’s party atmosphere, head to the country of Switzerland for carnival madness, the summers best line-ups and 72 hour parties!
What to bring…
As all events take place during the summer, plenty of sun cream is a must-bring. Along with a cap, cool shades and some wellies for trudging through the mud. Remember that your festival site may be in the remote countryside so bring everything you need for 3 days of partying. You’ll probably guess that there aren’t many ATM’s in the Swiss countryside either, so make sure you bring plenty of cash. If you need money ASAP go to the Post Office, or better rates can be found online at Travelex if you have more time to get your Francs delivered.
Paléo Festival Nyon: 23rd – 28th July
This 6 day-long music festival is the largest open-air festival in Switzerland.
Make sure you get plenty of sleep beforehand because once you enter the 6-staged arena with 229,999 other visitors you will be bombarded with shows, acts, performers, foods and the best musicians Europe has to offer. Tickets go on sale 16th April so view their website for the latest information.
Openair Frauenfeld: 12th – 15th July

The festival has been going since 1987 and 2013 promises to be their biggest event yet. For more information, the full line-up and to book tickets visit the official Openair website.
Basel Carnival: Monday 4am (after Ash Wednesday) – Thursday 4am

Think it sounds tame? Thing again. The Swiss see this event as an excuse for a 72 hour-long procession and party! Find out more by visiting Switzerland’s tourism website.
